Kristen Howorko, BSN, RN, IBCLC
I’m a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, Registered Nurse, and former NICU nurse — but before all that, I was a new parent having a hard time feeding my first baby. Like many, I assumed it would come naturally. It didn’t. Feeding was more challenging than I expected, but with the right support, we found our way.
I’ll always be grateful for the Lactation Consultant who supported me through that time. Her guidance not only helped me feed my baby but also sparked my passion for helping other families navigate infant feeding with confidence and compassion.
Now, I’m here to support you in reaching your infant feeding goals—whatever they may be. My practice is inclusive and welcoming to all families, whether you’re breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, or finding your own unique path.
When I’m not supporting families, you can find me reading a good book, out for a run, hitting the ski slopes, or unwinding with yoga.
Meet Cara, a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Hi! I'm Cara. I am passionate about helping families feel confident as they navigate feeding their new baby.
After more than eight years as a pediatric nurse practitioner, I became an IBCLC in the spring of 2024 and more recently, partnered with Kristen at Milk'd Up to lead breastfeeding support groups and provide in-home lactation consultations.
Since becoming an IBCLC, I've also welcomed my own son, an experience that deepened my appreciation for how emotional, rewarding, and sometimes overwhelming feeding a baby can be. It strengthened my commitment to supporting families with empathy, practical guidance, and evidence-based care.
Feeding your baby can bring up a lot of questions – and sometimes a lot of emotions, too. Whether you're navigating breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, milk supply concerns, or simply looking for reassurance, my goal is to help you feel both informed and supported.
When I'm not caring for families, you'll usually find me spending time with my husband, toddler, and our dog, hiking, fly fishing, or exploring the mountains.
What We Believe
Every family who works with us is different, and so is every feeding journey. These are the values that guide how we show up, whether you are a parent looking for support or a provider thinking about joining our team. They are the standards we hold ourselves to, every visit, every time.
Meet Families Where They Are
We start with your goals, your circumstances, and your real life. No two feeding journeys look the same, and our care reflects what matters most to the family in front of us.
Support Every Feeding Journey
Breastfeeding, pumping, bottles, formula, combination feeding, we honor every path. You will always find compassionate, judgment-free support here, no matter what feeding looks like for your family.
Keep Learning and Growing
We are curious by nature and committed to growing as clinicians. We ask questions, share what we know, and keep learning so the care you receive reflects the best of what is possible.
Build Confidence With a Real-Life Plan
Our recommendations are practical, manageable, and made for you. We want you to leave every visit feeling more capable and more confident about what comes next.
Collaboration and Abundance
We believe there is room for everyone to succeed. We share resources, cheer on fellow IBCLCs, celebrate each other's wins, and make thoughtful referrals when another provider is the right fit for you.
